What Comics To Watch For On Wednesday, 07/16

Hi, welcome to our weekly post where we tell you “What Comics to Watch For On Wednesday.”  We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week.  It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe.  This week is our first week back from a 5 month hiatus and coming back is ROUGH.  I mean, when we last saw you guys we had great titles to recommend like Mercenary Sea, Batman, Winter Soldier, The Walking Dead, She Hulk, and Ms. Marvel!  And now…I come back to…this?  I can’t tell how I should feel about this week’s offering of comic books.  Maybe I should feel embarrassed and concerned for the industry.  Maybe this is perfect timing for our comeback and you need us to help you wade through the muck and the mire.  I dunno, but here we go!

This week’s offerings:

Black Market #1

Leave it to BOOM! Studios to do something interesting.  They are always good for a first issue recommendation.  This is a “scientist discovers that the cure for all diseases is in superhero blood”  kind of story.  Here’s to hoping that they go low tech with it and have the protagonist capture a hero for experiments.  That would be something that I hadn’t seen a main character do in comics yet/awhile.

Princess Ugg #2

In a week that has few comics titles that I deem interesting, Princess Ugg caught my eye.  The idea of a young Barbarian girl trying to fit in with Disney princesses is intriguing and I might have to go check out issue #1.  If you have read this, let me know if it is good in the comments!

Cap’n Dinosaur One Shot

This comic book is some sort of homage to classic comics.  The art looks like Shaky Kane is doing his best Michael Allred impression and interpreting a silly, over the top story filled with Golden Age wackiness.  I like my heroes in suits with guns and masks.  But really, this looks fun.

Silver Surfer #4

We loved when Michael Allred does mainstream work and draws Marvel characters.  Silver Surfer is no exception.  Also, The Guardians Of The Galaxy are in this one.  Allred drawing Rocket and Groot is a treat.
