Hi, welcome to our weekly post where we tell you “What Comics to Watch For On Wednesday.” We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week. It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe.
This week’s offerings:
POP #1
I have been LOVING Dark Horse lately and this is a new series that they are putting out. Very exciting to think that this could be another “Massive” or “Mind MGMT” (both titles end soon). Get in on the ground floor with a brand new property. Here’s the solicitation:
What if the world’s pop stars and celebrities were literally products, grown by the world’s wealthiest (and most depraved) minds-and one of them escaped?
As unique as it is entertaining, POP is a white-knuckled thrill ride through the marketing-mastered, technologically tethered tragicomedy we call life.
Superman #34
John Romita Jr. is a favorite of mine and in this issue, he is introducing a new villain. Who has been behind all of Metropolis’ techno-attacks as of late. We find out in issue #34.
Bob’s Burgers #1
This is my morbid curiosity pick of the week. So much of what makes Bob’s Burgers hilarious is based on the amazing vocal talents that they have housed. So, here are these comics where the voices and timing will have to be provided by my mind. Will it work or fall flat?! Who knows.
Evil Empire #4
Max Bemis is promising that things are going to get crazy in this issue of Evil Empire. Was already pretty crazy, as far as comics go, with familial murders in political races. This is not the best book ever, but it certainly has my attention and I like it. We will see what issue 4 has in store.
Sundowners #1
I like the cut of this comic’s jib:
Faster than lightning! Stronger than steel! Crazier than an outhouse rat? Enter the Sundowners-sworn to protect humanity from interdimensional invaders! But is the threat real, or is it all in their heads?
It has taken less to get me to read comics.
Star-Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie #2
DC Comics pretty regularly publishes something that makes little to no sense to me and causes me pause. Enter Star-Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie. What the heck? It’s a zombie in a bomber jacket…riding a missile. Star-spangled indeed.
Silver Surfer #5
Allred Defenders… But, seriously, Mike Allred draws the Hulk crazy. The book is beautiful as always.
