What Comics To Watch For On Wednesday, 11/27

Hi, welcome to our weekly post where we tell you “What Comics to Watch For On Wednesday.”  We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week.  It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe.  Happy Thanksgiving!!!

This week’s offerings:

Wolverine And The X-Men Annual #1

What’s Kid Gladiator been doing since AVX?  We find out in this annual from red-hot writer, Jason Aaron.  What part did Kid Gladiator play in Infinity?

Sledgehammer 44: Lightning War #1

Critically acclaimed in it’s first series, the Sledgehammer character is a tour de force for people who forgot why the “Mignolaverse” is awesome!

Vertigo Essentials: Y The Last Man #1

Anytime you can get something great for $1 is a good day.  Much like gateway drugs, Vertigo is doing Y The Last Man issue #1 for $1.  Get them while they last!

Black Science #1

Rick Remender is a guy who naturally innovates.  He has fresh ideas, but with respect to the past.  When given stalwart Marvel characters like Captain America and The Uncanny Avengers, he breathed new life into hot properties in crazy ways.  I am excited to see what he does with his new, creator-owned title from Image Comics.  Black Science projects to be an intriguing and different kind of sci-fi.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman #1

When I was a kid, I loved to watch reruns of The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.  It was silly and fun.  The time travel bits with Mr. Peabody were always the best.  I will certainly check out this series, but I am REALLY hoping that IDW takes a “less is more” approach with this clever and time-tested property.

Saga #16

Ok, so…dirty little secret: I don’t read Saga.  I have moral convictions that prevent me from it, but I can respect that Brian K. Vaughan is a GREAT writer and Fiona Staples is a GREAT artist.  I can also respect the fact that truly original ideas are hard to come by in entertainment, so Saga is a great concept/story.  If you want to hear anything else critically gushing about Saga, just look ANYWHERE on the internet.  This looks like it should be another great issue as impeccably well dressed side characters take center stage.

Hawkeye #14

Matt Fraction + David Aja = Win.  Hawkeye #13 was a great read and I am excited to get it’s companion issue.  If you have not jumped on board with this series, you are late to the game.
