Welcome to our weekly post where we tell you “What Comics to Watch For On Wednesday.”  We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week.  It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe.  This week is FLUSH with great picks!!!

This week’s offerings:

Seven To Eternity #1

So, I am betting on this one based on creative team alone.  Rick Remender and Jerome Opena were the creative team behind Uncanny X-Force Volume 1 (2010), which was one of the best things to come out of Marvel Comics at the time.  Now, they launch this new Image book with Matt Hollingsworth (who is a superstar in his own right).  I am thinking that this will be great.

The God of Whispers has spread an omnipresent paranoia to every corner of the kingdom of Zhal; his spies hide in every hall spreading mistrust and fear. Adam Osidis, a dying knight from a disgraced house, must choose between joining a hopeless band of magic users in their desperate bid to free their world of the evil God, or accepting his promise to give Adam everything his heart desires. Writer RICK REMENDER reteams with collaborators JEROME OPENA (Uncanny X-Force, Fear Agent) and MATT HOLLINGSWORTH (TOKYO GHOST, WYTCHES) to take you on a hard road through the strange fantasy world of Zhal. All men have surrendered their freedom for fear. Now, one last free man must choose.

Vision #11

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssss!  Vision is rebelling.

The Avengers draw a line in the sand. They tell Vision he is not to cross this line. If he does, they will destroy him. ‘Remember,’ they say. ‘You’re an Avenger. First. Always.’ ‘Stay where you are,’ they say. ‘Don’t cross the line,’ they say. Vision nods. He tells them he understands. Then Vision crosses the line. The end is coming for the most critically acclaimed book of the year, and no one is safe. Don’t miss the issue everyone will be talking about. Also, hail Hydra.

Adventure Time 2016 Spooktacular #1

It’s almost Halloween time and Adventure Time is rolling out with the Lich and….Gunter, the penguin.  Evil reigns in spooky supremacy!

Hellboy And The BPRD 1954 #1

Usually when Dark Horse releases a “Hellboy in the oldendays story” it is pretty good.  This one is supposed to feature Hellboy breaking out of the N00B stereotype and coming into his own with the BPRD.

Black Hammer #3

Ladies and gentleman, I give you the cream of the crop for this week.  I am 100% into Black Hammer and it is the first comic in a while that has brought me back into that love/hate relationship with single issues.  I can’t wait for it to come out and am totally hooked on each end of issue cliffhanger.  Also, I kind of just want to read the whole thing now.  So that is where love and hate meet.  Black Hammer is a great story with characters, both fleshed out and concealed.  Lots of tension and heart.  I am 100% into it.

Dept H. #6

Black Hammer lead me to Dept H.  Dark Horse is killing it.  It always happens that when I read GOOD Jeff Lemire and run out of it, it leads me to Matt Kindt.  Underwater Welder brought me to Mind MGMT and Black Hammer lead me to Dept H.  Boy, am I glad that it did.  Dept H. is a VERY  secretive story that only gives you a little bit at a time.  It contains a mystery that unfolds just a little bit more with each member of the cast met and each event either occurring or remembered.  A strong cast and beautiful, artistically rendered family ties make the book captivating.

Trinity #1

DC Comics’ heaviest hitters team up.  Issue #1, as usual = origin stories.  Really, the star of the story will be Francis Manapul.  Wonderful artist, up and coming writer, and (if he is creating each whole issue) machine.  Check it out if you like DC superhero comics.

Britannia #1

Peter Milligan gets deep and goes hard with cerebral stories.  No reason to believe that this won’t be super interesting…

On the fringes of civilization, the world’s first detective is about to make an unholy discovery? Ruled by the Fates. Manipulated by the Gods. Commanded by Caesar. In the year 65 A.D., one’s destiny was not his own. At the height of Nero’s reign, a veteran of Rome’s imperial war machine has been dispatched to the farthest reaches of the colonies to investigate unnatural happenings? In the remote outpost of Britannia, Antonius Axia – the First Detective – will become Rome’s only hope to reassert control over the empire’s most barbaric frontier?and keep the monsters that bridge the line between myth and mystery at bay? From comics mastermind Peter Milligan (X-Statix, Shade the Changing Man) and incendiary artist Juan Jose Ryp (NINJAK, Clone) comes a psychological journey into terror, temptation, and bloodshed – presented in an all-new prestige format limited series! Prestige Format.
