What Comics To Watch For On Wednesday, 01/01

Happy New year and welcome to the first What To Watch For On Wednesday Post of 2014!  We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week.  It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe.  This is also the first week in a while that a Marvel book has not been featured…So check out what is on the docket this week!

This Week’s Offerings:

Juice Squeezers #1

David Lapham is know for his somewhat edgy, darker type writing and here he comes with what looks like a kid’s movie premise.  “Intrigued” about describes my feelings about Juice Squeezers #1

Aquaman #26

Welcome, Jeff Parker.  We hope that you take Aquaman to new heights and that 2014 is the year of the Aquaman!  (P.s. it’s Jeff Parker’s first issue on Aquaman.  He is a fun, light-hearted writer and hopefully a shot in the arm for DC Comics)

Dead Boy Detectives #1

People have been clamoring for this series since it was first a side note in Sandman comics.  In 2014, it is finally coming into it’s own.  Be there for what promises to be an exciting new series with an old premise.

Flash #26

Comic issues where they put the main character in direct conflict with their weakness are always great signpost moments for the character and humorous stories for the readers’ consumption.  Flash #26 puts him in such a situation.  Here’s the summary/salespitch:

In this special standalone story, The Flash loses someone important to him. To catch the villain responsible, The Flash must figure out how to use his powers in the one place where they do him little good: the sky!

Manhattan Projects #17

This comic book is a favorite of many and disliked by few.  I am rooting for secret project Charron.  They have built it up quite a bit and now the story seems like it is going to pay off.
