Hi, welcome to our weekly post where we tell you “What Comics to Watch For On Wednesday.” We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week. It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe. Only 9 single issue comics come out today. Happy New Years!
This weeks offerings:
Star Trek Planet Of The Apes #1
When they saw this one comin’, all of the other comics got out of the way. Two geek-favorite properties unite and hit comics under the BOOM! Studios imprint for madcap fun.
Batman Eternal #39
I haven’t been following Batman Eternal. I have heard that it is occasionally “good comics.” The whole reason it made this post is because the cover is FREAKING AWESOME. Look at it and find the secret. AWESOME. Well done, Tommy Lee!
Shield #1
At first glance, this looks like a throw away title. Maybe something that is created to whore out the television show, Agents of SHIELD. But, look a little closer and you find something more interesting. You have Clark Gregg’s “Coulson,” but you also have a book written by comics legend, Mark Waid. Then that causes you to dig a little deeper and brings you to the solicitation:
High-tech weapons. High-stakes missions. High-octane adventure! For the men and women of S.H.I.E.L.D., it’s just another day in the field! Special Agent Phil Coulson brings together the best and the brightest, the gifted and the elite, normal people and superhumans from across the Marvel Universe on an as-needed basis to confront, combat and curtail dangers beyond the scope of any conventional peace-keeping force! Writer Mark Waid (DAREDEVIL) and a rotating crew of mission-specific top flight Marvel artists make you one promise: Every issue: Twenty pages. One mission. Unlimited budget. Unlimited imagination. Six periods. And a helper monkey. Welcome to Level Eight.
Sounds fun to me.
All New Miracleman Annual #1
This looks to be a talent tour de force. A long lost Grant Morrison story, illustrated by Joe Quesada sounds like something that we would’ve salivated over years ago. Milligan and Allred together? This promises to be, at worst, interesting.
