Hi, welcome to our weekly post where we tell you “What Comics to Watch For On Wednesday.” We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week. It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe.
This Week’s Offerings:
Rat God #1
Richard Corben’s art and storytelling are on full display with Dark Horse Comics’ Rat God.
Superman #38
Looking like this one’s gonna’ be epic.
An extra-sized special issue of the world’s greatest hero brings in the New Year with a new costume, new powers and new friends and enemies! The epic team of Geoff Johns, John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson conclude their first arc with twist after twist that will send Superman onto a new path and force Clark Kent to making a shocking decision! Plus: John Romita Jr. draws Batman!
Saga #25
Everybody’s favorite series returns with a bang. Big wraparound cover from Fiona Staples and BKV promises to feature almost the whole cast!
Hinterkind #15
I read the first couple of issues of Hinterkind and sort of got an idea of how it goes: “Post apocalyptic society with tiny magic undertones.” Then I see this cover and I am like “Whu?!” A lot must have happened since those first issues!
Postal #1
Image is doing some really odd, innovative concepts lately. Check this out:
The townsfolk of Eden, Wyoming wake up to the first official murder the town has seen in 25 years. Their reaction to this isn’t normal, and there’s a reason for that. Eden operates as a haven for fugitive criminals who remain here while new identities, often including facial reconstruction, are created for them. There is zero tolerance for any illegal activity that might draw attention to the town and an ‘official murder’ is the last thing they want. A single, tight-knit family runs Eden with the youngest oddball son Mark Shiffron overseeing the postal branch, the only means of shipping in or out of the city. THE FBI has repeatedly been foiled trying to insert an undercover here; they see Mark as the weak link to exploit. This murder gives them a new opportunity.
Cluster #1
A “gritty, violent Sci-Fi epic” for fans of criminal casts and reprehensible character-driven stories. Also, cover by Stokoe!
Nameless #1
I’m not sure if you were aware, but Grant Morrison has been doing thangs at a very high level, lately. Multiversity is in full swing and it seems to be the perfect time for Morrison to drop an Image book with long-time collaborator and star in his own right, Chris Burnham. Nameless is so highly anticipated that it got an article in Entertainment Weekly, promising full on horror shenanigans. Color me excited….and….nervous…
All-New Captain America: Fear Him #1
I’m digging Sam Wilson as Captain America. He deserves an offshoot miniseries!
Batman 66′ #19
A dude named Lord Marmaduke Ffog is making people British in Gotham… YES!
Lord Marmaduke Ffogg has come to Gotham City, and he’s brought a bit of old Londinium with him. Specifically, some of that city’s famous fog! But this is no normal fog. His malicious mist may just find the entire populace saying ‘Gor Blimey!’ Can Batman and Robin see their way clear to stop this cloudy culprit in time, or will the city swing like a pendulum, too?
The Goon: Once Upon A Hard Time #1
This could be the last Goon story ever! The Goon has been a favorite of mine for years and it will be interesting to see how Eric Powell’s tale raps up…or if it even does?
Birthright #5
Ifanboy.com loves it, so it’s gotta’ be good, right?
