Welcome to our weekly post where we tell you “What Comics to Watch For On Wednesday.” We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week. It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe. Comics, comics, comics. Lots of new comics out this week.
This week’s offerings:
Totally Awesome Hulk #8
In the last issue of Totally Awesome Hulk, Bruce Banner had a good bit of #realtalk with Iron Man and realized that he is no longer angry…that he is no longer The Hulk. In other news, smarty pants Amadeus Cho thinks that he is smart enough to handle the Hulk powers. I guess that we shall see…
Future Quest #2
Ladies and gentleman! I present to you the only Hanna Barbera comics reboot title that seems to be successful! Blip the Monkey is here now and everything will be ok.
Batman 66 Meets Steed and Mrs. Peel #1
I can’t even handle this solicitation:
England swings and so does the Dynamic Duo in this historic pairing of two of the hippest shows from 1960s television. DC Comics and BOOM! Studios join forces to bring these iconic characters together for the first time!
So, they are all going to swing together? I’m good with it.
Flintstones #1
I’m addicted to these Hanna Barbera re-imaginings. Described as Mad-Men-esque. Makes sense.
Throwaways #1
I like the solicitation for this one:
MATURE READERS
THROWAWAY (n.)
1. A disposable asset, used for a single mission; 2. A disavowed assassin, meant to die alongside their target.
Abby Palmer and Dean Logan are two broken people-Abby a vet with severe PTSD and Dean a burnout trying to escape the shadow of his infamous father-when they are thrust into a modern-day MK-ULTRA conspiracy… and discover they are both ULTRA’s human experiments.
The Fix #4 (Subsequently 1-3 as well)
Image is doing this right. The creative team on this book is great and they are playing to their strengths, HARD. The best thing about issue #4 is that Image is simultaneously releasing 2nd printings of issues 1-3 with it. You can piece together a trade and not have to wait!
Gunsuits Alix One-Shot
You had me at “Lovecraft meets Robotech.” Jump on at issue zero!
Justice League Rebirth #1
Justice League is a good thermometer for how things are going in the DC Universe. A lot of people are getting excited (with cautious optimism) about what is going on at DC right now. Let’s see what they do with what should be their marquee book. My interest in DC could use a “Rebirth.”
Brik #1
Oni Press is putting out a $1.99 comic about a teenager calling on the Golem of Jewish folklore to fight his battles. I am excited to check this out:
urban fantasy tale of power and morality from writers Adam Glass (Suicide Squad, TV’s Supernatural) & Mike Benson (Deadpool, Moon Knight), amazing new illustrator Harwinder Singh, and colorist Gonzalo Duarte (The Bunker, Big Trouble in Little China)
Are you interested too?
Civil War II Kingpin #1
So in case you have not been paying attention, Civil War 2 is happening. Tony (Iron Man) is the Cap (good, altruistic, possibly misguided hero) to Carol Danvers’ Iron Man (Totalitarian powerhouse) and how they deal with a “Minority Report” situation. Carol knows when people are gonna commit crimes and is not afraid to lock them up for it. So crime, as they know it, is ending in the Marvel Universe… or is it?
If anyone is powerful enough and resourceful enough to get around this, it’s the Kingpin and I am way into seeing how he does it. Come. Read with me.
