What Comics To Watch For On Wednesday, 9/11

Hi, welcome to our weekly post where we tell you “What Comics to Watch For On Wednesday.”  We are doing our best to recommend a few titles worth your time this week.  It is good to note that we rarely suggest mid-run titles, because we try to provide good jumping on points or oddities that must be seen to believe.

This week’s offerings:

Mighty Avengers #1

Mighty Avengers #1 has the distinction of being the only Marvel title on the list this week.  Usually, this list is over-run with Marvel titles, but much like the big heroes are dealing with the “Infinity” event, I am left without much excitement.  Enter, Mighty Avengers #1.  It’s a new team with some familiar faces and some forgotten gems of the Marvel universe fighting it out on Earth to cover for the lack of the heavy hitters.  What I am most excited for is the secret character in the shoddy Spider-Man costume.  Wonder who that could be…

Mighty Avengers 1

Batman #23.2

The reviews and general buzz about the Zero Year event in Scott Snyder’s Batman has been very positive.  This issue seeks to take The Riddler from that story and relate him to the goings on of the Bat-verse today.  Worth a shot.

Batman 23.2

Prophet #39

Prophet is a crazy story spanning the universe and the ability of the reader to accept richly-crafted science fiction oddities.  This issue focuses on the long-standing Image Comics character, Diehard.  The Easter Egg-like inclusion of this established member of Youngblood into the (and this puts it lightly) “wacky” world of Prophet has been a delightful part of the mythos, so this issue should be great.

Prophet 39

Todd The Ugliest Kid On Earth #5

This is the official solicitation for this comic book:

‘Charlie Rose’s Table: Public Broadcasting Satan’ Part One After picking up some cursed swag at Granby Comic-Con, Todd uncovers a satanic cabal headquartered at PBS. His dad, Gus, concocts an elaborate ruse to keep his latest financial windfall alive. Meanwhile, Police Chief Hargrave searches for his ‘perfect Glover’-a black partner that will boost his political popularity.

‘Nuff said…Thank God Image extended one of my favorite miniseries!

Todd 5

Astro City #4

I will continue to recommend Astro City.  Don’t just buy this issue, go buy the trades.  Buy every single issue of this great series.  Also, this issue is about an older lady with super powers, so there’s that…
